The Canada Summer Jobs is a Canadian government grant that offers support for employers providing supervised career-related work experience for youth employees with the aim to prepare them to make transition into the labour market with the experience gained through this program.

This program provides wage subsidies to employers from not-for-profit organizations, the public sector, and private sector organizations with 50 or fewer full-time employees to create quality work experience for young people between the ages of 15 to 30 years old.

Whether you are a students or not, all youths between the ages of 15 to 30 years may be eligible participants.

Canada Summer Jobs

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Canadian government introduced some temporary flexibilities to respond to the need of employers and youth in the Canada Summer Jobs. This year, the program will continue to offer these temporary flexibilities in order to support employers and youth.

The following temporary flexibilities wil be in place for Canada Summer Jobs 2021;

Wages – The Canadian government will continue to provide wage subsidy reimbursement of up to 75% of the provincial or territorial minimum hourly wage to funded public and private sector employers as against the 50% under regular rules.

Part-Time Employment – Under regular rules, all Canada Summer Jobs funded employment has to be full-time (a minimum of 30 hours per week) placements, but employers may now offer part-time ( fewer than 30 hours per week) placements.

Employment Period – Usually all Canada Summer Jobs/positions have to be completed during the summer months, but now employers may offer job placements between April 26, 2021, and February 26, 2022.

Changes To Project/Job Activities – Employers may now amend project and job activities if the proposed project is impacted by COVID-19 restrictions after an agreement is signed. In such cases, the employer should contact Service Canada to discuss potential amendments. All changes must be approved by Service Canada.
